Suriname hosts the 2026 Pan-American Korfball Championship

Press release - SURINAME ANNOUNCES: We are hosting the 2026 Pan-American Korfball Championship!

Paramaribo, May 2025 - YES, IT IS OFFICIAL! It is with incredible pride and enthusiasm that the Suriname Korfball Federation announces that we will host the IKF Pan-American Korfball Championship in October 2026! Thanks in part to our partner Presssure printing services, we were able to win the bid to host this beautiful event, which will take place next October in Paramaribo.

For the first time in history, this top international korfball tournament is coming to Suriname - and that is a huge milestone. It is not just a sports tournament, but a true highlight: a recognition of the hard work, dedication and passion with which korfball has evolved in Suriname in recent years.

"It’s almost impossible to put into words how proud and honored we are," says national coach and Suriname Korfball Federation board member Ivan Karsters. "This recognition shows that Suriname is being taken seriously as a sporting nation. It’s the culmination of years of hard work, and a chance to show the world what we’re capable of.

A milestone for korfball in Suriname 

The tournament brings together the best korfball teams from North and South America in Paramaribo, competing for the title and qualification for the World Championship. But it’s more than that: it’s a celebration of sporting pride, cultural exchange, and international connection.

With support from the International Korfball Federation (IKF), the government and our partners, the Suriname Korfball Federation is committed to organising a top-class tournament with impact on sport, youth and society.
