1902 -1945<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Whereas korfball was introduced in the Netherlands in 1902, the sport was practised in Suriname from 1910. However, there was no sign of a breakthrough yet. It took until 1916 before the first official korfball club was a fact: SKV (Surinaamsche Korfbal Vereniging).<\/p>

In the 1920s, interest in the sport grew so rapidly that Vitesse, RKK (Roman Catholic Korfball Club), Cicerone, SDL, UDI, EDO (Eendracht Doet Overwinnen), Elto, and DAVA (Door Allen Voor Allen) also made their entrance. Despite many efforts to further develop the sport, korfball just couldn't break through in Suriname.<\/span><\/p>

On January 1, 1934, the Suriname Korfball Federation was founded. In 1938, the federation organized the national championships for the first time, where SDL claimed the title. The establishment of the federation led to more clubs joining, such as Lelydorp and De Stormvogels. Up until World War II, which also had its impact in Suriname, korfball experienced its golden years. With the entry of clubs like Xerxes and Succes, more and more clubs joined.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

1950 - now<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

No korfball was played during the war. After the war (1950) there was some revival with the addition of clubs like El Deportivo, Leo Victor and Contact, but again the sport had to lose popularity until in the \u201870s korfball fell into oblivion.<\/span><\/p>

Ondanks vele inspanningen de sport verder te ontwikkelen, heeft korfbal geen doorbraak kunnen forceren in de Surinaamse sportwereld. Hier willen wij opnieuw onze schouders onderzetten.\u00a0<\/p>
